Overview

What this project is about and why it matters.

NeuroNetNZ is a professional child evaluation and assessment platform built for the New Zealand market. Parents and healthcare professionals use it to fill in detailed developmental assessments for children, tracking milestones and identifying areas that may need attention.

The platform needed to feel welcoming and modern — not clinical or intimidating — since the subject matter is sensitive. The entire project was built from concept to production, including design, frontend, backend, and deployment.

The Challenge

What made this project technically demanding.

01 Session Resumption

The core challenge was building a multi-step evaluation form that saves progress in real-time. If a parent starts filling in an assessment and closes their browser, they must be able to return days later and continue from the exact field where they stopped — no data lost.

02 Non-Clinical UI Design

Child evaluation tools typically look cold and clinical. The client wanted something visually creative and warm that puts parents at ease — while still maintaining professional credibility for healthcare providers.

03 Complex Form Logic

The evaluation forms have conditional logic — different questions appear based on the child's age group and previous answers. Managing this flow while maintaining save/resume functionality was a significant architectural challenge.

The Solution

How we approached and solved the problems.

We built a custom session management system that stores form progress server-side, linked to the user's account. Each field change triggers an AJAX save, so progress is preserved in real-time without the user needing to click "Save."

The form engine was built as a custom WordPress solution with a step-by-step wizard interface. Each step validates independently, and the system tracks exactly which step and field the user was on when they left. On return, the system restores their position seamlessly.

For the design, we created a warm, modern aesthetic with soft gradients, friendly illustrations, and generous whitespace. The result is a platform that feels approachable for parents while maintaining the professional structure that healthcare providers expect.
